Minutes Summary 8-7-08

The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order by Mayor Bob Schabert in the Courtland Community Center on Thursday, August 7, 2008 at 7:00 pm.  All council members were present except Greg Schwartz.

Bents made a motion to approve the agenda as proposed.  Kollmann  seconded the motion.  The motion carried with all in favor.

Poehler made a motion to approve the written minutes of the July 3, 2008 regular city council meeting.  Schabert seconded the motion.  The motion carried with all in favor.

Kollmann made a motion to approve the bills from the month of July for payment.  Poehler  seconded the motion.  The motion carried with all in favor.

Schabert gave a report on the meetings that he had attended on behalf of the city interests.  He gave a short report on the hunt for a new Tri-City administrator.  The board has not interviewed the candidates yet but would be interviewing six candidates in the next few days.  They had received about 14 interviews.

After extensive discussion on the Zieske Road extension and the water problem on the south end the council decided that the work was completed as well as could be expected under the circumstances.  Poehler made a motion to approve the final pay estimate to Mueller Construction in the amount of $16, 863.78.  Kollmann seconded the motion.  The motion carried with all in favor.

Gulden gave a report for the street department on the estimates that they have received on Fiemeyer Drive.  He stated that the committee would be meeting in the next few days to decide which option they will choose.  He said that the way the budget looks they would probably decide to only do the overlay option rather than dig it out and completely replace it. There is a difference from approximately $55,000 to approximately $28,000 between the two options.  The proposals from all the firms were pretty close.  Poehler stated that we have to continue to maintain the roads on a schedule if we expect them to last the 20 years that we have on our GASB 34 capital plan.

The city clerk informed the council that the training for election judges is being held on August 28, 2008 in the Nicollet County Courthouse at 1pm.  She stated that she would have two new judges this year.  Ron Hulke and Jean Kahnke have agreed to go through the training to become election judges along with Duane Fiemeyer, Lillian Bode, Margel Woltmann and myself.  We also need to approve Bridgette Kennedy and Christine Johnson from the county Auditor’s office as judges just in case the city is drawn for the election audit.

Schabert made a motion to approve Resolution 08-106 Appointing Election Judges for the 2008 Primary and General Elections.  Kollmann seconded the motion.  The motion carried with all in favor.

Poehler made a motion to adjourn.  Schabert seconded the motion.  The motion carried with all in favor.

The meeting adjourned at 8:25 pm.
